World Polio Day: Seacoast Rotary Club of Portsmouth, NH and Rotary District 7780 Unite to End Polio Worldwide | Posted by Nathaniel Meyer |
In honor of World Polio Day, which was recognized on October 24th, Seacoast Rotary Club of Portsmouth, NH sponsored “Bridge the Gap to End Polio”. Susan Von Hemert, Midge Nelson, Joan Nickell, Martha Netsch, Joy Riddell, Debbie Rodier, Pam Gray from Kittery, Joshua Holt from Kittery After Hours, Susan Gold of Portsmouth Rotary and District Governor Lawrence Furbish were instrumental in organizing and promoting this event. (They were even so gracious as to order up a beautiful day!) Thanks to all the Clubs, committees and individuals who made the event a success. As many as 300 Rotarians, family and friends walked onto the new Memorial Bridge to raise awareness and funds for Polio Plus, Rotary International’s 27-year mission to eradicate the crippling childhood disease. Rotary Clubs from District 7780 (southern Maine and seacoast New Hampshire) were all involved, helping to make the final push to eradicate Polio. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will match each dollar raised two for one, making “Bridge the Gap to End Polio” an event that is sure to have an impact. Be sure to join us next year! |
